- Centre of Excellence for Product and Automotive Design (CEPAD).
- The Queen’s Anniversary Prize 2007 for continuing to pioneer new developments in the field of Automotive Design. Key to this success is its innovative industry-focused courses and applied research, which have been highly influential in helping to maintain the UK’s position as a leader in automotive design.

- Pervasive Computing Laboratory - state-of-the-art software and hardware in the area of wireless sensor networks and embedded systems design including off-the-shelf systems such as Crossbow's MICA2 Altera EPXA1 development kits, a digital storage oscilloscope, an arbitrary signal generator and a logic analyser, sensing hardware makes use of the Gumstix Linux platform and Bluetooth wireless technology
- Ethical Hacking Laboratory – dedicated facility to develop the skills that for a career in security analysis, penetration testing, systems administration or networking
- CU-ADAM lab - housed in the Bugatti Building and a collaborative initiative of the Design Institute. Provides drive-in vehicle digitising and full-size projection and modelling space on the ground floor, which is interconnected with existing physical model finishing workshops in the adjacent building.
