Richard Frediani, Head of ITV News Granada.

UCLan Course: Postgraduate Diploma in Radio & TV Journalism

Current Job title: Head of News, ITV Granada. Granada Reports won the BAFTA for Best News Coverage in 2007, beating the BBC and Sky.

How has UCLan benefited your life or career?
Without the course I would never have been a journalist. And even now without the course I wouldn’t have a source of future employees!

Why did you choose UCLan?
The course had an excellent reputation across the industry.

What is your greatest achievement since graduation?
In broad terms it is having a successful career which has taken me to places I would never dream of going, in to situations I would never imagine, and meeting people I never thought I’d meet.

For example, David Beckham at a World Cup match in Japan in 2002; travelling to Iraq in the aftermath of the 2003 war; and then countless world politicians, sports stars and celebrities that I’ve had to interview.

What are your lasting memories of your time at UCLan?
UCLan provided an excellent course which gave me a perfect grounding for my career. And, being in Preston, I was able to study and enjoy the excellent amenities.
